Objective: A shingle manufacturer required a means of regulating the tension on their fiberglass mat un-winder stand. The existing means of tension control was by the operator manually adjusting the tension of a mechanical clamping arrangement. This required constant attention by the operator and proved troublesome during reel changes and line shutdowns.
Action: Ai Control Systems worked with the customer to design and build a pneumatically activated dual brake system. The braking system maintains constant tension through a closed loop PID regulated control system. A custom designed dancer roll position transducer provides feedback for the closed loop system.
Outcome: Operator attendance to the system is now minimal which allows him to attend to added responsibilities.
